I'm an 18 year old male. I have the good student discount and took Steer Clear (a program from State Farm that lowers your insurance) and I pay $114 a month. I am a part-time driver on a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt and I don't have any tickets. Is this too high for me?

In California....with your risk profile (unfortunately you are going to be in the highest risk rating band).....I'd say you are right in the ballpark with what you should be paying.

The one thing you might try....if you live on your own and can afford a renter's insurance policy....you should buy that from State Farm as well....by bundling both policies you would get an additional discount.

You are getting a good bargain. There are others your age who are paying much, much more.

Where you live has alot to do with it. For example, if you were in Brooklyn, you would be paying double that (for minimun liability coverage). Without knowing where you live, driving record, and what coverage you have, it is impossible to tell how much you should be paying.
I would shop around at a few different companies. It cant hurt. You dont need to wait for your insurance to expire to change companies.

If I were you, I'd call around to a few other insurance companies or to someplace like progressive that will check other companies' quotes for you. See what the range of prives are and that will give you an idea of where your current rate ranks.

You can also ask the representatives for advice on what drives your rate.

Call around to find out if it is a good price. Remember when calling around to have a copy of your policy in front of you. Make sure you let every place you call know exactly what coverages you have and the limit of coverage. You want to make sure you are comparing apples to apples
