I am cooking for New Years Eve. I have a 20 pound turkey that I will make stuffing for. My dad's recipe for stuffing includes a pound of hamburger and a pound of ground turkey. Actually if I could I would use venison hamburger. I also put in celery, water chestnuts, and onions with sage bread pieces.

I am also making scalloped potatoes with ham. My girl friend is making sweet potatoes with marshmallows and some without. She is also making fresh buns and stollen bread (A Swedish bread with candied fruits.) She also will bring asparagus and green beans.

My other girl friend is quite the baker. She will bring Christmas cookies, double chocolate cake, and an apple pie with homemade vanilla ice cream. My daughter made chocolate truffles--some with pecans and some with walnuts--as well as some without nuts.

My other girl friend is bringing salads and appetizers such as shrimp, caviar, and those scallops wrapped in bacon. She also will get spinach puffs from Trader Joes.

We have cranberry and cherry asti spumante to toast the New Year. We have eggnog and rum.

I am serving this on my new china with stars and moons and matching blue glasses that also have stars and moons. I have a silver table cloth and matching napkins. To light the room I have a blue neon moon sculpture and a fiber optic Pegasus.

We have been doing this for about 15 years.

one that doesn't give me heart burn.

i'd love to have the meal my gramma used to make.. many of them.

one dish i'm thinking of is the 'shake and bake' bbq chicken meal.. artificial tasting in a good way.. with mashed potatoes with real and artificial (french's brand) with corn.... her chicken boullion gravy with the real chicken broth before she bbqed it in the oven with the mix. just roasted right.. still exploding with juices but the shake and bake bbq has gone crispy and chewy.. and that used to be oooh so goooood.... sooooooooooo gooooooooooooooooooood....

the corn was with whole kernel and creamed but a dried creamed corn.. she used to take off the cob and dehydrate it in the oven at 150 degrees for a couple of hours and it would be golden brown and all shriveled up.. then she'd put it in the mixer and with some half and half and some spices cream it up and that corn was mixed with whole kernel corn and it would be so munchy, chewy and gluey...

the potatoes were also whipped with a mixer.. and have this thick consistancy to it.... then the gravy would be cupped into the mound just right...

served with REAL wine, not that massed produced crap.. along with sweet tea....

also it would have to be at the old homestead on a hot summer day with a nice breeze and the late afternoon sun turning the whole kitchen into a deep bronze orange.

ah yes.. that's my dream meal.

:D

You mean without regard to the realities of my screwed up digestion?

A big, well-marinated roast beef like Steve used to make. A twice-baked potato from the Mill Street Deli in Ben Lomond. Some of their grilled vegetables that look so great. And as long as we are in complete dreamland here, add a nice Cabernet Savignon (spelling?) from one of the better nearby vineyards from one of the better years (late 1980s, I think). And of course, fresh sourdough rolls with real butter. For desert, the ultimate: shoo fly pie, made from my grandmother's recipe.

Some of these recipes are on my 360 blog.

Char-broiled ribeye steak (bone-in) medium well, bbq baby back ribs, deep fried jumbo shrimp, a big baked sweet potato/yam with loads of creamy butter, OR a big baked Idaho potato loaded with butter, salt & pepper, sour cream, cheddar cheese, bacon bits, and green onions. A nice piece of garlic bread, sweet corn on the cob with butter and salt. For dessert, fresh strawberry pie with whipped cream. To drink, ice cold lemonade with lemon, OR a glass of sweetened iced tea without lemon. That's good eating!
