They're not mine I'm asking for someone else...she has had pups before when she belonged to someone else but we don't know the outcome. We're not sure if she did the say thing with her other litter.

Well, she could have NO maternal instinct whatsoever, I've had that with a pet once before. Or, there could have been something genetically wrong with the pups. Or, she didn't have any milk to feed them.

Hopefully no one touched the pups with their bare hands and made her no longer want to touch them. Some dogs/cats are very picky about scents.

You could hand feed the last pup - get puppy formula from your pet store and pet baby bottles - and keep him warm.

there are many reasons why a dam will push her pups away. Take the remaining one to the vet and they will be able to help you properly care for it. It will probably have to be feed every hour as it is so small. Also since you said that the dam isn't your, if I were you I would ask if she's ever done this with previous litters and if so stongly suggest that she be spayed.

Good luck in keeping the remaining puppy alive.

The mother dog might feel crowed from the new arrivals. They might need some time in a bigger pen, or just some time alone. After about an hour then go back and try to get the pups suckling again.

Have you had her checked by a vet to make sure nothing is wrong with her?

Some dogs just don't know what to do. Or sometimes a dog that is a spoiled housepet doesn't want the puppies, she'd rather be with her family. If she is too young, that could be the problem too. Or it may be a health issue.

Didn't you try to feed them or something? Or did you just let them die of cold and starvation?

Either she, or the puppies are unhealthy...

If that is the case, let nature take its course...

Be sure you're giving the mother a little extra food, because nursing depletes a lot of the mother's vitamins & minerals, as well as energy. I have had mother's eat a puppy or two outside in the winter, when she does not have adequate food...

talk to your Vet, however sometimes if the *****(mother dog) senses there is something wrong with the pups she will let them die as she seems to know nothing was gonna save them.

:o I think maybe the mother dog pushes her pups away because they smell like another scent or other animal. I heard that if the mother smells a new scent on he babies, she will abandon them. I hope this helps!

I am not sure of the scientific reasons but this does happen... bottle feed the baby thats left and do let her have any more puppies. She may never let them feed.

She's obviously not breeding material. Urge your "friend" to get the dog fixed ASAP and to never breed again. If her source of breeding information is Yahoo! Answers, then she isn't fit to be a breeder. Period. Refer to the AKC website and have her read the 22 responsible steps for breeding. I'm sure that she doesn't even meet one of them.
