I agree but i know people lie about that all the time and it is very heart breaking to the person who thinks they found someone wonderful when they find out. it is so much easier to tell the truth and not hurt others. this was a great question i am glad you posted it and i hope a lot of people read it.

In the past I have had experiences both ways. I would much rather the person was honest about their marital status for a lot of reasons. One if you do build a relationship how can you trust this person if they haven't been honest from the beginning. Two if they haven't been honest then you have to wonder if the only thing they are interested in is a physical relationship. There is nothing wrong with this either as I have had a purely physical relationship and was honest about what I wanted right from the beginning it made it easier when the time came to break it off with the guy because he got too involved and it wasn't what I was looking for at that point in my life. Three honesty is always the best policy because you don't have to try and remember the lies you have created for yourself!!!! The Internet allows people who aren't honest to take advantage of those of us who are the best advice is to be wary until this person has proven to you they are being honest always err on the side of caution. I hope you find someone who is as honest as you are!

If I were married, which I am, I would not solicit anyone's attention thru IM "for a possible relationship." That's really wrong. So yes. And if I were to become friends with someone of the opposite sex and there was any possibility at all of me becoming attracted to him, I would try to never interact with him privately. That only opens the door of temptation even wider. Now if the person is divorced, then they are free to pursue a relationship...but I think it would be only fair and polite to mention at some point that you are divorced. Especially if you have children. If you're serious about this new relationship, then honesty has to be a priority!

Honesty is the best policy.

Regardless of if you have an open relationship or if you cheat on your significant other behind his/her back, you should be honest with the person you're getting involved with. That way, everyone knows what the expectations are.

Good luck with the IMs....My opinion...not a good place to find love though....

I would always be honest about my marital status. Happily married! Dishonesty can only lead to more dishonesty and this would concern me greatly if this person is married and claiming single. What would be the purpose of this? Liars stink and are up to no good!

If you are married, ya have no business doing it unless it's an open marriage and both partners are consensual with it.

Having said that, to lie will likely come back on the liar. Karma can be a biotch. What goes around, comes around.

Yup, honesty. If you are married ya might get fewer hits, but at least you'd have one less lie to worry about coming back around on ya...the repercussions from cheating are gonna be bad enough.

i asked a guy to im me for a possible relationship and he knows all about my boyfriend and how i had feelings for my boyfriend's mate and how much i've ****** things up with my boyfriend (who for some reason i'm still with, despite the fact that i don't love him) and how much more i've ****** things up with this mate of my boyfriend's and how i just wanna get out of it all. anyway, paul knows all about it, otherwise i'm just ******* it up again and i want paul and me to stand a chance. we just won't if i can't be honest.
so, in short i would be as honest as honest can be about everything, not just my marital status.
