okay so, I am co-opening an home daycare. I am so nervous it hurts. I will have 2 infants, a 2 year old a 4 year old and two school age children(i think, they may be pre schoolers). I need advice on how to make the days go by smoothly. I have worked in day in commericial daycare with an assitant before and that was a breeze and i have worked by myself before also but with one age group at a time. Please give me some helpful tips on how to work with this wide range of ages. Thank you

I also have a childcare in my home. What I do to keep eveything under control is have the kids take their naps at different times. Put them down maybe two at a time. This will make things easier and it will make it feel as if you are only taking care of a few children instead of four. It works great for me. As far as the school aged children, they love being outdoors. Weather permitting, allow them to go straight outside. Good luck!

Make a scheduled structure for every day, like your teaching class or something. you can have the 2 and 4 year olds do crafty things, while you feed and change the infants. While the infants are napping take time to read to the 2 and 4 year old. Give everyone their lunch at the same time and just do your best with time management. Good Luck!

Just be sure you have a routine schedule set-up and follow it as close as possible. It's very important for kids attending day care to experience and expect routine. I'd have advise that you keep the kids more close in age (say 2-5). Infants need a lot of attention! Still, if it doesn't work out let the parents know right up front. Don't over stress yourself...

Just re-read your message and see that your co-opening... meaning you have help! So it should all work out as long as you devise a routine and stick with it (minor adjustments as your business grows of course). Good luck!!

the two school age kids will probally be happy playing with each other. the two and four year old you should allow them to pick an activty to do together. and the infants should have a schedual already just try to keep that in place. right out a list of things to do with each age group and try to stick with it.

keep the kids busy at all times don't let them get bored. Center your daycare around all kinds of activitys. Have your little guys play and your older ones paint and then switch after they are done breaking the group up makes things run alot smother for them and yourself.

I hope you have toys to entertain the 2 and 4 yr. old, I'm sure they will live to watch tv or childrens movies also. You can entertain them by playing sing-a-long songs and teach them their colors, numbers and abc's. I have a big barrel of legos and when my grandchildren come up that's the 1st thing the was to play with. Hope this helps.
