Your phone company must also provide caller id service. This usually costs extra. And not all numbers can be identified.

If you buy any phone in USA with caller ID. The caller ID and phone numbers will not be displayed in india when there is a call. Only a speaker phone and the answering mechine is usefull.

The telephone set itself will not be able to display caller ID though it might have compatibality since the set was not purchased in India. To have the display activated, you should approach the Network service provider for which you will be charged a nominal amount per month which will be reflected in the telephone bill.
