First off your feet will feel 100% better if you loose the weight. Second there are meds your doc can give you for the gout. It stops the crystals from forming in those particular joints. You could also try going to a health food store. They can help you with all natural remedies and they may be cheaper than a script.

Gout is a condition where uric acid crystals build up in the body.
This can happen in the area of the big toe and cause a lot of pain.
Our foods contain purines; some foods are higher in this than others.
The doctor may place you on a lower purine diet (of which they will usually provide you a list of foods to avoid. There is also medications that can lower the uric acid in the blood
Here an alternative way to cure gout?

If the doc says it is gout, he probably confirmed by doing a blood test for uric acid. Uric acid is the substance that causes crystals to form in the joints of gout sufferers...and causes the pain.

Quite simply, if you have gout, cut out the foods that are known to have high uric acid contents, such as lobster, crab, etc. Many websites can delineate which foods are high in uric acid. Just that simple change will make a world of difference for you. Back in the old days, gout used to be called "the rich man's disease" because it was virtually unheard of in common folk who could not afford those foods. So, instead of being sad, rejoice that you have something you can fix quite easily by making some dietary changes.

Treatments include anti-inflammatories, corticosteroids. These medications can help alleviate symptoms in as little as a week. Before taking any medications for gout, you need to discuss the potential side effects with your doctor. Certain medications can cause severe gastrointestinal and cardiovascular side effects.
