I'm thinking about joining a YMCA, mainly because I'm dying for a water aerobics class.

My question: what is the average cost?

Also, is it worth it?

My computer no longer opens any PDFs, and that's the only type of document the site of the YMCA I want to attend provides.

The price varies from one location to the next. We have a family plan at our local Y, and it costs $51.25 a month. We live about 1 hour from the Twin Cities. In the cities, the same membership cost $83 in St. Paul and $98 in Minneapolis. If you can't find your local rates online, give them a call and ask. And then call around to other gyms that have what you are looking for and compare prices.

Is it worth it? In our case, I think it is. Our plan covers 6 people, so it comes out to about $8.50 per person. On top of this, my wife gets reimbursed $20 from her employer each month that we use our membership. But for you, I really can't say. I don't know what the facilty is like in your area, or what the cost is.

i would shop around. Our YMCA is more expensive than a private sports club in town, and provides less services. While the Y is generally a great place, ours is lacking.
