So, I was looking at the toddler beds just to do so. I want to buy my son one since now I have the money for it, but I have no room to store it, so when I buy it I will have to set it up then and there. I looked at a bed and it said ready for babys over 15 months, my son's not quite there yet, but what I'm wondering is when he is older than 15 months is he ready for one? Or should I hold off until, when?

Both my kids had a bed when they were around 18 months. I say, the sooner you get them out of the crib, they won't get attached to it. Some kids want to stay in their crib. Just get some rails for it so he doesn't fall out. My son started sleeping better when we put him in a big boy bed. Good luck!

I was told that when you child's chest (nipple area) is just above the top of your crib is when your child should be moved into a toddler bed. Once they are over this height, the chance of them leaning over the side of the crib and falling out increases greatly. But age also does factor into this because it is not safe to just leave a baby in an open bed. I would talk to your pediatrician and ask for a recommandation, this is what I did. (My son is almost 16 months though) She said by the way he acts and is she believed that he would be mature enough for a toddler bed. But my son is not a baby baby he is always a couple months ahead in development and is way adviced in talking and he is mature for his age.

Height, weight and age all need to be taken into consideration before moving your son. I would suggest waiting until he is 15 months and talking to your pediatrician as far as if they think he is ready for it.

Why not just save the money or put it away somewhere until he is ready?

I waited until my daughter was 2. I skipped the toddler bed and went to a twin size bed and used railings so she wouldn't fall out! But if I were you, I would wait until at least 18 months. They say that they can stay in a crib as long as they don't start trying to climb out. Its hard keeping a toddler in a toddler bed! lol. Good luck.

Well I guess it would depend on the child. my eldest son went in his "big boy bed" when he was 20 months. Darling son number 2 is 18 months old and has been in his bed for the last 3 months. He'd started climbing out of his cot and it was too dangerous to leave him in there. We tried it out during his afernoon nap, I decided it was best to give it a trial run rather than put him in there at night, I'd have been asleep and unable to keep an eye on him. We put pillows beside it so if he did roll out he'd have a soft landing. Does he climb out or seem unhappy in his cot? It's a shame about the no storage thing, means you're taking a bit of a risk. I'd maybe leave it for a little while until you're sure or if you have a family member or friend who could store it for you you could try that.

If he can climb out of his crib he is ready for a toddler bed. If you buy the bed unassembled it will be in a relatively flat box. You could probably store it under your bed. You use the mattress that is already in the crib. So it really won't take much storage space if it is not assembled.

my son was 18 months when he went into a bed, but we used a regular bed cause a toddler bed is a waste of money and we just brought a side rail so he wouldn't fall out of bed, he was fine and stayed in his new big boy bed.

Most definitely use a toddler bed, it will save you from bed wetting when potty training time begins. My son started in a toddler bed when he was about 18 months old and we were gearing up for potty training.

It all depends on your child.. I put my son in a bed at 16 mths... The crib was getting too crowded for him, and he did wonderful with it!! I know that the bed says it's only for 15mths and up, but you use your judgement.. I think he'll be fine!! Good luck to you

I moved her to a toddler bed when she climbed out of her crib. The crib no longer serves it's purpose and becomes a danger when they can climb out.
