It is not neccesarily the best- I purchase mine at WalMart
( the WalMart brand ) for less than half the price of Pam at the grocery store and it is equal in product quality. The reason the cooking spray is good is that you are using less oil than a liquid oil which means a healthier heart to grow old with, which is quite important. When cooking with the spray, it is also wise to cook on a bit on a lower heat so the food does not stick to the pan. Sometimes I will spray once again mid-cook. I always use cooking spray and have grown to appreciate the less greasy taste of stove top cooked foods. The spray also works great with baking tho you should attempt to only spray where the exact cooking will take place as when you spray the top of (for example- a mufffin tin) the spray will turn brown on the pan surface which can acrue over time if you do not SOS scrub right away. When baking with Pam you may also (for cake/bread baking) cover the sprayed surface with a bit of flour, just as you would with oil, to prevent any sticking. A last reason for the use of the cooking spray is the ease of cleaning your pans after cooking. so... Happy Food Preparation and have a wonderful and tasty 2007.

I learned to bake with butter but find that any of the sprays seem to work.

Well it was the first I believe so it is considered the best, I use the store brands most of the time and think they are just as good as well as easier on the pocket book.

I don't think it is. I've used the Kroger brand non-stick spray and it works equally well.
