Is it a bass guitar i am looking for to play that crunchy sound at the beginning of the beautiful people (marilyn manson)? Where the drums come first but then comes that heavy guitar kicking in, what guitar is that, electic or bass (with amp connected to it)
I am going to get a bass guitar knowing the deep bass type of sound without the amp.
I also know that twiggy ramirez plays the bass but i don't know whether an electric guitar produces that heavy sound or the bass.
In other words i'm getting a bass guitar while being confused!
A little help then?

Blimey - a bit of a thin reason to be buying a bass guitar.
I'm not sure which sound exactly you are referring to at the beginning of "Beautiful People" as, after the drum intro you have lead and bass guitar playing heavy chords, together with a keyboard.
Have a look at the link I've attached of the band performing it live and you may be able to identify it a little better.

That song intro is a most likely a guitar tuned down a 1/2 step or possibly a beritone guitar. Most of the sound you are looking for is coming from the effects that they are using. you can probably find out what effect it is on line somewhere.

it's not a bass- it's a detuned guitar.
