A troll is someone like the "What Should I Do Retard"... in an open forum, they're usually the users who come in and
a) start topics, often multiple in a single day, that have nothing to do with the category/subject.
b) spam.
c) begin flame wars with other users, posting just to incite inflammatory responses.

Someone who isn't asking a serious question, but just wants to get people riled up or try to get them to say things that make them look silly (in the troll's mind).
It's a very lame type of self-amusement... I think insecure people do it to try to feel superior.
Personally I think there's enough of a range of viewpoints out there that you don't have to ask artificial questions to find something funny to read.
