This is a retooled version of an earlier question, I confess. a) I couldn' believe that none of the atheists that so enjoy mocking believers were fair enough to answer my original question b) I was trying something new technically. So! Why are you here? Why do you visit an area when you clearly have neither religion OR spirituality... an area that has nothing to do with you. You have the right, and I respect that right, to NOT believe in the existence of God and to live a totally secular life. It is equally our right to be believers in something greater than ourselves and to try to live our lives accordingly. This is a clearly an area that has absolutely nothing with you. Why do you insist on visiting this section and basically insulting us, addressing us as if we were either stupid, on crack or both? Does it empower you somehow? Do you feel better about your non-belief by belittle believers? Or is it simply jealousy because "faith is not the possession of all people"?

Well I'm glad y'all came in. Seriously. Now, Alan? I'm ever so up for a good debate but this is not a forum for DEBATE because there is no real back & forth of difering opinions. You simply make a statement in response to a question. In this case, the vast majority, not all, atheists who come into this area do so to mock.and belittle believers. Prime example "how can I prove the bible is a piece of crap." Now, "YOU" may not consider it a holy book but many do. Why not instead as "Is the Bible really the word of God?" Then you have a real question for discussion not a half-baked statement meant to do nothing but insult and mock.

Kailan: I did not indicate my religion intentionally. This is not about any religion but it is about those who believe in a God being mocked by those who do not. Atheists as my question stated, have every right to their belief... or non-belief as it were. I am not bothered in the least by those who question people of faith. I am bothered by those that come in here to mock, poke fun at and insult those of us who are believers. Do you see the difference?

My apologies to you Kailani for the repeat of my response to you. I couldn't get the hang of the add details thing. Sorry!

Well, I'm neither atheist or a christian.. I guess what bugs me is that your question implies that your religion is the only one with "believers".. I believe strongly.. just not in your God.

Many atheists I've met are spiritual people.. simply spiritual in their own way. They have a right to be here and to share what they believe with others.

Why do christians feel the need to attack those who don't believe in their god, don't ask them questions and have already read their bible many times over and chosen a different path?

Honestly, do you feel that this question really does anything more than provoke and belittle others? Are you simply jealous that they are educated and informed and have a faith that you can't understand?

Edit: I see all your posts to me ;) Gotcha.. makes more sense now, and I do believe that we see a lot of belittling on both sides. Your point is well taken.

I come here to raise awareness of my faith without trying to recruit (I will leave that for the other faiths) and to insure that my faith is not being portrayed in a bad light by those not even familiar with it but feel the need to judge it. Occasionally I have had to point out to others (Christians) that their faith "borrowed" certain elements from much older religions. But mostly I feel I come here to learn about some of the faiths that I have not had time to explore more fully to understand their point of view.

Blessed Be )O(

I visit because I do have spirituality. You may not believe that I do but it really isn't up to you to judge.

As a matter of fact most people have spirituality.

The definition of spiritual on dictionary.com: Of, relating to, consisting of, or having the nature of spirit; not tangible or material.

Therefore this is a place to discuss the human spirit and how it is affected by different belief systems. As an atheist I believe that the human spirit has been damaged by christianity because of its oppression of women, and its protrayal of everyone as mere slaves to an omniscent being. It instills fear in humans that they must belive the bible or they will die. Either they die in this life through holy wars or they die in the afterlife by being sentanced to hell.

The human spirit suffers damage from living in constant fear and the human mind suffers from being unable to reach its limits due to this fear.

We have to spread the gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
He wiggles for our delight.
Ramen !
People must know what schizophrenia symptoms are.(illusions, delusions, hearing voices, irrational reasoning, believing that invisible beings are watching us and interfering with our lives etc...)
We must also let people know that zyprexa exists. It is a drug that cures some schizoid delusional mental disorder. (Use only as directed, talk to a doctor.)

I was starting to worry that I might not see this question today.
Atheists are here because we're interested in religion and spirituality. That is, funnily enough, the same reason you're here.
