I was young and stupid and cussed out a colonel. Now I am an adult and really want to enter law enforcement but I don't think they will let me. This was almost 20 years ago. I am bored with the work I do and need a change...

You need to get legal advise in order to get your bad conduct discharge amended to a general discharge. No PD will take you.

Best of luck!

You got a B ig C hicken D inner (BCD) discharge and put in the brig for cussing out a Colonel. No that does not sound right, there is more to it then just disrespecting a Superior officer. And no, I do not believe any police force will look at you with your military record in that state. Police force's across this nation is para-military meaning discipline in times of stress and if you went off on a Colonel, I can just image how some citizen will be bantered when they come upon you. Departments are looking for people that will do the job and not get them sued, you will be a walking law suit waiting to happen.

Not to be disrespectful, but not on my Department.
Ex-Marine.

Your conviction and stint in the brig will not allow you to become a cop. This is a federal conviction. You may want to attempt to have your discharge upgraded. However; when they look at your military record, chances are you will not be hired.

They put in jail for cussing? I am pretty sure that any major poilce will tell you to take a hike. There are enough people who have restraint that are looking to become officers. I have never know anyone that has done "time" becoming a police officer

I would say in most cases no. However, there are small town departments that hire strictly on who you know and the very large cities will work with you cause they are in need of applicants. You will probably in 9 out of 10 cases need to get your discharge upgraded.

seem at your techniques ...choose for the court docket martial and get the Bcd or see in the journey that your criminal expert/JAG could desire to speak the commanding officer into yet another NJP with perhaps a typical discharge(OTH) yet you are able to desire to be the "case learn" to be made an occasion of , for the earnings of the different marines on your squad, so as that they are going to be much less possibly to wander away......

If you had the impertinence to cuss out your Colonel I can just imagine how you might treat the poor people you would come up against in a position of power.
I sincerely hope that they use thier brains and do the right thing.

Why not you would fit right in with them. Their conduct is not so good. They just shot a guy 50 times. They Lie, Some take bribes and in Suffolk county 24 of them got busted for selling drugs.

You should be able to get your discharge upgraded. You didn't do anything criminal, they will upgrade it to a general discharge for you, then it shouldn't be a problem.

A good friend of mine did the same thing and he got kicked out for weed, and they still upgraded his after only 2 years.

Check out this site for info on how to go about doing it.

Since most cops are former military they are going to take one look at your BCD and circular-file your application.

BTW - you can only get a BCD upgraded if you can show evidence that you did not deserve that kind of discharge.
