Ham is the generic (general) name for salted pork. Gammon is the specific name for a certain cut of the salted pork. For example you can get collar ham, back ham and leg ham. The leg ham is usually far more meaty with only a layer of fat on the outside and very little interspersed in the meat. This is the gammon. Ham also comes in smoked and non smoked varieties. The saltiness depends on the amount used during the curing process. To reduce the salt level in ham soak it in water, changing it every 3 hours or so, for 24 hours.
Try it cold with hot peas pudding found in tins in Tesco's etc.and mashed potatoes. Open the hot mashed potato on the plate and add a large knob of unsalted butter.

Gammon is from the hind leg of the pig, traditionally "Wiltshire cured" and rolled into a joint.
Technically, ham is the thigh and buttock of any animal that is slaughtered for meat, but the term is usually restricted to a cut of pork, the haunch of a pig or boar. Although it can be cooked and served fresh, most ham is cured in some fashion.
Ham can either be dry-cured or wet-cured.

i think ham is already cooked whereas gammon is raw and you cook it yourself. Gammon also tends to be alot more salty than ham.

gammon is thicker like a steak for grilling Ham is thinner and cooked for sanwiches and salads
