I want to know how to find bastardy orders in the UK. More specifically, I'd like to find bastardy orders in Shropshire in the early nineteenth century. I'm trying to find the father of Thomas Bridgwater, who was born circa 1823 in Stoke St. Milborough to Hannah Bridgwater. Any information on finding bastardy orders would be helpful.

See http://klausjames.tripod.com/thomasbridgwater.html for more information on my ancestry.

My other half does a lot of genealogy, and suggests the Access to Archives website:

The relevant County Records Office might be worth a try too.

all births were recorded, illigitmate offspring were also recorded but not always with the fathers name in place start with county records, then to parish records and a good way of cutting out the false leads is to find out who was living in the same house, go through Ancestry .com which is a good website for getting the correct docs.
