I say "mon-e-gaut" and thought that was always the "italian" way to say it but i've been hearing people that are supposed italians say it as its spelled. How do you pronounce it?

The way that you say it it right. Every Italian person that I know friend or relative says mon a gaut.

I agree. Eh-tal yan. Of course I also pronounce Iraq and Iran with the same I sound.

I ve had umpteen pure Italian friends from New York, Jersey, and San Francisco say "mahn-e-gaut~" with like a sharp trailing t at the end.

A close friend of mine is Italian and it drives her crazy when people say it is Eye-talian. It is Ih-talian. Think of it like, you would not say he is from Eye-taly, it is Ih-taly.

I say Man ih cotee. Giada says Mahn ih COHT ee. I don't know how much I trust her though.
