They ignore. Plain and simple. They shun questions. They change the conversation to closed ended questions. (questions that are generally not open for discussion) Yes and no questions. The communications are generally very short and aggrivating. One person (the one open to talking usually begins the conversing while the other usually shuts it down)
Unfortunatly I am in a relationship like that right now.
I have also been the other person- not open to communicating. Guess I am paying for it. Thanks for asking a great question.

The watch, the glance towards the horizon, the folded arms, the slightly turned-away body, the fixed and silent stare (intended to repel you), the hurried speech, the use of neuro-linguistic language such as, 'busy', 'must dash', 'will catch up with you later', that makes you think they are ultra-busy and have no time to talk to you, the irritating tapping of the pen on chest, teeth, table ...

... but you don't really need us to tell you all this, do you? We all respond to these signs on an instinctive level.

Talk to them. They are short with their answers. If they keep looking at their watch, a clock on the wall,a book, a newspaper, their work, a corner, the computer, talking to others, looking away, ignoring you. It is a great chance they want to be somewhere else. If you call them, text them, leave notes, IM them, e-mail them, and get no replies, or very short ones, they are not interested.

the way i ignore people when they want to chat with me or something is:

they come into my office without even knocking: i dont even look at them.
if they want to talk about something personal: I smile and say wow! today will be a busy day i better get going!
if someone in the trolley wants to make a comment: I look in the opposite direction.
if someone that has a "crush" on me wants to have a silly talk: I hate those sexual abusers, didnt you see the news this morning???
if girls at work want to talk with me just because they have nothing else to do: listen, I come here to work, not to make friends, and then I say: OMG, I'm joking! you know how sarcastic I am, by then they just laugh and go away LOL

If they stop calling, emailing, texting for longer than 3 weeks, then they probably dont want to communicate anymore.

You are in trouble if you do not know.

- will not answer the phone and just let it ring
- will not answer your texts
- if caught, will say is busy and will return your call but doesn't
- is always busy

keep your eyes and ears opened otherwise that person may turn nasty so you understand better.

not communicating with you would be the main one!

Watch the facial expressions, tone of voice, and attitude. Usually they are a clear give away.

Short answers, no return calls, pretending not to hear you, walking past you without acknowledging your presence, avoiding you in public places, and these are pretty obvious.

It seems to me you already know you are being shunned.
