I do not think it is rude at all. What someone does for a living is an impt part of who he or she is. I think a man has every right to ask this question and I see nothing wrong with it at all. The only woman who would see it as rude obviously has something she is not proud of in her closet.

Well that is a typical question you ask when trying to get to know someone. It usually opens the door into other possible questions like "Oh what kind of degree do you need for that job?, Where do you work?, How long have you worked there?, and how do you like your job?"

No, it's not rude. That's what we've been asking you for decades, anyway. Besides, more and more women are taking pride in their careers, so chances are she'll love to talk about it.

It's not rude if you are genuinely interested and not just being nosey or trying to find out if she can support you.

Not all, because you are trying to get to know her. From that question you can have a conversation based on her answer.

I don't think so. I mean, that is generally public knowledge of a sort. Just don't ask her age or weight.

No, of course not. She will think you only want to know for general use. Maybe you both have the same job, maybe you know where she works at. It's nothing taboo....

I don't say that it's rude per say as long as it flows in the natural conversation.
