I am looking into getting a better digital camera. The one have is okay, but it only has 3x zoom and doesn't take low light pictures very well. Example we went into an Aquarium (those places are pretty dark), my camera had all sorts of issues trying to get good pictures. It either wanted to use flash and you would get a nice glare off the glass or would just be plain blurry when you try to take a non-flash picture. I want to upgrade to a camera that can do the following & more:

1. 12x zoom (need to get closer)
2. Image Stabilization
3. Can take excellent low light pictures
4. Takes really nice Macro shots (I take a lot of these currently)
5. Super fast shutter speed (my current camera is REALLY slow for me to take another picture if I don't like the first one...I miss a lot of moments this way...VERY annoying)
6. A quick start up time (i.e. ON button to taking first picture).
7. Fairly good preset modes (i.e. indoor, macro, low-light, etc...)

Which would you suggest?

The extra zoom is so I can get closer to wildlife and other items without actually getting physcially closer. (example, birds, animals at the zoom, building details, better vacation pictures, etc...)

My son just bought the Cannon S3 IS. We shopped around and bought the Canon based on features and price.

One thing to also consider is the video mode. The Canon can record 640x480 at 30 fps, which makes it sufficient quality to display on television (not just a small window on your PC screen.)

The minimum focus is also pretty impressive, under 2"!

Personally I have a Canon digital SLR (6 MP). The S3 IS (also 6 MP)is impressive, and apart from not having SLR features such as multiple lenses, filters and functions, it gives the SLR a good run for its money.

Personally I'd choose the Canon because I really think the company is top-notch and the customer service is better than anyone else.
But if you'd like to see the side by side comparison:

They look almost identical. Price is a little cheaper with the Sony (which surprised me) but I'd still go with the Canon.
