he has been sleeping in a toddler bed for about a month now, but recently he has started climbing out of bed in the middle of the night and climbing in bed with me, he used to stay in his bed all night and now he wont, any suggestions of why this may be?

He is probably just having some sort of dream that is waking him up and he just needs some comfort...try to pick him up and gently take him back to his room. Stay with him for a few minutes, and then soothe him with a few gentle strokes to the head, or a hug, or whatever method of comfort you normally give him....the tell him it is still night time and mommy sleeps in her bed, just like HE sleeps in his "big boy" bed...and that you are going back to YOUR bed now, and that you will see him in the morning. It may take several nights for this to work, but he should soon get the feeling of security again in his bed...
I KNOW that this is disruptive to YOUR sleep time (and we never seem to get enough of that with small children!) but DO NOT give in to the temptation to let him sleep there for a while...that will only make it THAT much harder on him ...and nearly impossible to break the habit after he has actually slept in YOUR bed!!!
Good luck to you...and I hope you get some sleep again soon! lol!

Just more aware that you're not there. My daughter has been in toddler bed since she was 12 mos old. Shes now 2. But i keep her bedroom door open but a baby gate in the doorway. This gives me the peace of mind that she cant get near stairs or anything dangerous while the rest of the house is sleeping. If she needs me she calls out and i come running. But maybe a gate in the doorway will curb his wanting to get into bed with you.

It's probably just a security thing. My son is three years old and still does it. If you can figure it out let me know.

You can look at it like I do though. At least he goes to bed in his own bed at first. That gives you a little time by yourself.
