Getting back a refund has nothing to do with Income but rather with deductions and with-holdings... You have no with-holdings you get no refund. You have much w/h and many deductions you get a major refund. Having said that there is "unearned income" refunds... With two dependents and limited income you may qualify for "unearned income refund". Do some research. Buy a tax preparation program for under $50.00 and follow the instructions. I like Turbo Tax. Call your taxman....

I will need to know your filing status, if there is any investment income, and how much was withheld from your pay for taxes.

For example, if you are head of household with two children, and little or no investment income, you will get about $3600 in refund plus any amount that has been withheld from your pay. Your refund comes from the additional child tax credit and the earned income credit.

It depends on how many taxes you had withheld. What did you claim on your w-4?
