Its not Cillin.. its Penicillin and amoxicillin is a modern derivative of penicillin. You most likely have a penicillin allergy and yes it is serious. You should wear a medical alert bracelet in case of an accident. This episode you survived, however the next exposure could kill you instantly. You may want to ask your doctor about an epipen.

You're going to want to avoid most antibiotics. Make sure your doctor & pharmacist know that you're allergic to penicillin so they can double check medications for you before you take it. Cephalexin is a sister-drug of Penicillin and some Penicillin allergic people can take it, but it is also not advised.

You're also going to want to be careful of some cheeses like Blue Cheese that use a type of penicillin in the cheese to flavor it.

Do not eat any moldy foods. Don't scrape off the mold and eat it either, as the mold will be into the food itself and can cause you severe problems. Toss out any old breads, and try to use fresh as much as possible. If you can't remember how long you've had it, toss it and get a fresh loaf. If you find you're not eating much bread and its constantly spoiling, you can always freeze the bread when you get it and take it out of the freezer as you need it.

Good Luck.

I agree with the others. It was definitely serious. You had an allergic reaction. I'm also allergic to penicillin, so I usually get Azithromycin (also called a Z-pack) prescribed to me instead when I'm seriously ill. It works well, but some people are allergic to that too, so be careful.

ANY allergy has the potential to be serious. If it isnt now, it can be. You definitely need to make sure your doctor is aware and know for sure that you have an allergy to the medication so that it can be avoided.

Yes it is very serious. My son took amox once and got a rash the doctor said it was from the infection he had the next time he was put on amox he got the rash again but his throat started swelling shut and he almost died. He had to have a shot of epinphrine to open his throat up.

this may sound wierd but make a trip across the border or go to a doctor and find a way to get a script for over the counter meds they will probably try to sucker you into taking the real perscription meds for allergies.

You need to talk to your Doctor and alert him/her. I had a similar reaction to ampicillin. You are probably allergic to penicillin and it could be serious or life threatening. Tell your Physician right away. He will probably advise you not to take anything related to penicillin. Blessings to you.
