Scott....want a true answer? Take a look at any magazine for females age 12 thru 50....what do you see? Super thin girls and women....ads about diet "wonder" pills, meals, and exercises programs. Clothes modeled by super thin girls and women. Articles about how to lose weight, slim down your thighs, etc. Is it any wonder that every female wants to diet, be thin, lose weight? Females are bombarded from the time they are tweens with the idea of the "perfect" body....everything we see, TV, movies, books, magazines, all point out thin is beautiful. We hear our mothers and aunts talk about dieting. We see our friends worry and weigh themselves, we talk about it, think about it, dream about it. That's why.

Because society puts such an emphasis on women looking their best, and that women should fit some ideal image. Plus we, as a society, are so overwhelmed with celebrity nonsense, you can't turn around without seeing an article about how Jessica Simpson has gained 10 pounds in a week! Ohmigod! And everyone is criticizing her.
And men ogle the beautiful, thin women...which makes women think that's what men want.

I personally think it's some kind of conspiracy propagated by transsexual men to make women less attractive and themselves, by comparison, more attractive. (I'm 75% joking here. An elderly friend used to tell me something similar in all seriousness and I thought it was funny. However she did show me evidence that at least in some cases, her theories were correct) Honestly though there does seem to be a media and fashion bend toward making super thinness the standard of beauty. And most women have bought into it. Very few men would consider these emaciated women attractive but for the prestige of dating a model.

Yes, but you are a rare one. The presure from the time you are little is to be thin, thin, thin. We see women we think look good, but no we hear from others, she's fat. So we end up looking at ourselves and if we don't see perfection we feel fat and ugly. I was the same way...I only wore a size 5 or 7 and thought I was so fat, cause I could pinch skin on my belly and had a little pooch at my thighs. When I look back at pictures now, I can't believe how thin I actually was! I guess it's a self esteem thing, us women just need to hear you guys out there tell us how beautiful we really are!

I'm pretty thin (5'6" (121lbs)) and I feel fat all the time. Truthfully, it's how a woman feels about herself. When she's feeling good and when she is feeling bad (sees herself differently).

1) If I have been eating lousy lately, I can still look thin to others, but the way I feel, I feel "fat" on the inside. I feel like my butt grew and my stomach has gotten bigger and I start to panick and then I feel I need to do something about it. Diet or more excercise.

2) Everytime I try to do something good for myself, something messes it up and I feel I'm back on that road again, enjoying my food to have a good time now and feeling bad later.

3) When I treat myself good, I find I'm able to not think about it and relax because really, it's all about how my stomach feels, it's all in the gut. I don't need to look at myself in the mirror to see that I am thin because it's my thinking not my image.

4) One's menstrual cycle makes a woman feel bloated, so there you go again, feeling fat and I need to do something about it, diet.

Weights fluctuates all the time, so the yoyo thing is a constant battle.

Does this help?

The media and fashion world has put this false sense of being thin is cool in the minds of women. Men even fall for this. Men watching tv, or out with their girl..... A really heavy woman appears and the man is just about gagging........ then a skinny woman appears..... the man is drooling........ tounge hanging out, acting like a dog in heat. Women want to please theri man by looking good. They think that will keep their man happy. When in realitly, the inside is what counts. But then again, Dr.'s keep nagging women to loose weight as well. (men too). so it comes from different things................Just be yaself and be healthy!!

I hear you, Scott - ALL women think they're fat - they all drink 12 glasses of water a day, eat salad instead of a decent meal, are constantly at the gym, obsess about every morsel they eat and in general they all think they're fat.

We can thank the media and the fashion designers.

They have brainwashed the women of America to think that healthy female secondary sex charactaristics (that is, breasts, big hips and a thick layer of body fat) are "ugly" and all women are supposed to look like 12 year old boys.

It's sad - because no heterosexual man finds that attractive - but every woman in America wants to look like that!

We're all competing for mates, and, unfortunately, body weight is the arena in which women are judged most harshly by men and by one another. They're right to be concerned, in a sense, so it's not something you should try to talk a girl out of too quickly. Instead, express your approval now and then of normal size and normal diet, without discussing it so much that it grows as an issue between you.

I have meat on my bones and really cute and fit guys always like me, but I always wonder why and what they are up to. I have a good personality and a good job but being overweight makes me feel insecure, like I have something to apologize for.

I wasn't always overweight, and since I have gained the weight, I wonder how men still find me attractive. It is strange. I do find myself attractive, but I am also well aware that I look nothing like models, most singers, and most actresses. I am too smart to think this way but I still do it.
