Yes, MUCH better!

I was in the Air Force for 6 years and I was ready to get out. Everyone was trying to persuade me to stay in and that I had a much better future by staying in.

Turns out, over 13 years later I am making more money than I ever have, I have a wonderful wife with three kids. A home and two cars that I would have never been able to afford while being in the Air Force. A 3-acre lot on a lake and much more. And now, I no longer have to worry about all the politics involved in the military.

However, if you have been in the Air Force for 10 years I would encourage you to finish out the last 10 years to get that retirement check.

Thanks for serving our country if you are a service member.

Yes, people in the military (especially the ones who's been in the military their entire lives) have a way of making it seem as though there is nothing better than being in the military. Life is what you make it. If you don't do anything you will get nothing. You determine how successful you will be in life. If you want to separate, you need to start transitioning the moment you make that decision. Take the TAPS class. Start looking into jobs…Do something because as it looks right now (with the AF Laying off people in the next year or two) you may need to get prepared anyway.

I've been in the AF for 7 years and I'm ready to get out. I have 1 yr and 9 months left. I have a family and the military benefits do not weigh my happiness. It's seem that our GOOD Leaders have been replaced by A**holes

I think it depends on what you want, if its predominately money, then the civilian life is better on that one aspect, the air force rivals most companies for benefits however. I was in the air force for a little over 4 years due to stop loss (civilians dont have stop loss), now I have my associates, bachelors and im working on my masters degree, something I would have not been able to due with as much ease if I would have stayed in. I will probably start out around 50-60 thousand a year with my education, which would have taken me an entire carreer in the military just to reach. Something to think about!

The Air Force is about as civilian as you can get while in the military.

honestly... i think the usaf is much better than civilian life. do you know how good they treat you there?! lol. it's the most lax of all the branches i think. they just throw all these benefits and perks at you. if you're looking for action/military lifestyle, AF is probably not the best choice unless your gonna shoot for being a CO. otherwise, the AF is the life. ;)

If you have plans......if your plans are to go to college.....but you don't know what for.......and you don't know what you'll use your education for......then what's the point? stay in, keep your great benefits and retire and then become a civilian.....if you can't hack it in the military, then get out........but the grass isn't any greener on the other side....unless you are determined and have plans that the military will collide with
