Let me clear this one up!
It depends what game you're talking about. If you are playing 5 card draw / stud then it is imposible for more than one person to have the same three or four of a kind.
If on the other hand your playing a community card game like Texas Holdem (the most popular one) or Omaha then YES kickers do count. In fact even in four of a kind the kicker matters (but this situation only occurs when 4 of a kind is out on the table). Remember, kickers are only used if everything else is a tie.

The only way for two people to have the same three of a kind is if wilds are involved, if they are then the player with the natural three of a kind wins, if both players have a three of a kind with wilds, then yes the "Kicker" comes in play.

Kickers are not used in three of a kind because it's impossible for two players to both have the same three of a kind. Kickers are only used for pairs and two pairs.

sure, if you have 3 jacks and someone else has 3 jacks, I say kick who ever brought the deck 'cause they are cheating.
