You know honestly it could be that you're just not using the right products in your hair. If you use the right shampoo and conditioner, your hair shouldn't be as poofy. It's all in the haircut as well; I have THICK hair and I get layers, which makes it more manageable.

When you go to style your hair, the blowdryer you use can make all the difference in the world. I have t3 featherweight, which costs like $200 but its soooo worth it because my hair is straighter and tame. It even looks better in a ponytail after I dry it. Make sure you don't air dry your hair, that just makes your hair even bigger.

Look Girlie, I have the same exact problem......i'm sure your hair doesn't look awful in a ponytail!!! Anyways, i just learned to love mine, and i actually do now.......sorry i keep jabbering on, but i use the Sunsilk shampoo and condition that is in the green bottle(it's for frizziness) this always helps to calm mine down. Also use the Sunsilk no frizz creme(put about a half-a-handful in your hair while it is still damp, then blowdry your hair straight). I know what your going through, my hair is extremely long and exteremly thick.......but I LOVE IT:) Hope this helps!

Have it thinned at your hairdresser, and get frequent trims so that you can get it thinned frequently.
Also, try putting one pony-tail on top, and layering some pony tails underneath the main one.
Use conditioners, and keep your hair on the shorter side. I know a girl who shaves the under-layers of her head, but that's kind of dated and it shows when you put your hair up.

If it tends to be frizzy... After shampooing, condition and comb tangles. Then, once you rinse, try Mixed Chicks Leave-in Conditioner (www.mixedchicks.net). Then air dry. Don't towel or blow. And if you didn't already notice, brushing while dry makes it puffier. You may need a light gel, but the Mixed Chicks should offer a lot of control.

I'VE HAD THE EXACT SAME POBLEM BEFORE! ok, go to a haircut place and tell the person cutting your hair to just take off the weight. When you shake your head side to side, there should be a mass layer of hair(that's what happened to me) grab somw of it and show the haircutter what you mean. If they listen, you'll have a much lighter head after you get your trim. LOL

My friend had the frizziest hair i'd seen. She got her hair cut about 9 inches off. I think u should get short and long layers in your hair and maybe try some styling gel or a straightener.

Okay, relax!! I have curly thick hair, I run into the same problems. Try wetting your hair or using a leave-in deep conditioner to calm it down. Then to calm it down put some gel, mouse, or oil sheen in it to make it easier to work with. Or if you want to thin it out go to the hair salon and ask them to thin-it out. they will take out layers of hair underneath and it will be easy to work with.

Have your hair stylist thin it out. He or she can thin it with a razor cut or thin sections of it. That will cut out the volume. Best of luck to you.

you could get all your hair braided. It's not permanent but can help for some periods of time. (usually about 3 weeks)
