My Air bag light has been on for a couple months in my 2001 Volkswagen Beetle... what could this mean? It is just a sensor? and how much would it cost to fix?
THANK YOU in advance!!
have a happy new year:)

I had the same thing happen on my Jetta. Safety equipment usually has a longer warrantee than the rest of the car...and i think you can still take it to the dealer and have it fixed for free. All the dealer had to do for me was reset the compu (run the car for a few mins without the battery connected, or turn the key off-on a certain number of times) and the light went away for like a year. In my case, it was the light that was screwed up, not the safety system. When the light returned I got into an accident several weeks later, and the bags still worked.

With every day pass, our country is getting into more and more trouble. The inflation, unemployment and falling value of dollar are the main concern for our Government but authorities are just sleeping, they don’t want to face the fact. Media is also involve in it, they are force to stop showing the real economic situation to the people. I start getting more concern about my future as well as my family after watching the response of our Government for the people that affected by hurricane Katrina.

According to recent studies made by World Bank, the coming crisis will be far worse than initially predicted. So if you're already preparing for the crisis (or haven't started yet) make sure you watch this video at http://www.familysurvival.tv and discover the 4 BIG issues you'll have to deal with when the crisis hits, and how to solve them fast (before the disaster strikes your town!) without spending $1,000s on overrated items and useless survival books.

If the airbag light is on, that means there is some sort of malfunction with the airbag. It could be anything from the airbag housing, down to the sensors on the bumper. You should take it into VW for an estimate on the repair cost.

I would reccomend getting this fixed right away. It could cause the airbag to go off for no reason at all, or cause the airbag to fail if and when you really need it.

Get it fixed ASAP, or you may get a prematurely deployed airbag exploding in your face without any warning. It could be something as simple as a bad sensor or housing, but it's not something you want to ignore like a low windshield washer indicator light. Get it fixed because your own safety is at risk if it deploys for no reason and causes facial injury to you.

Get this looked at. I had the same thing, not on a VW though, and out of the blue, the passenger side curtain bag went off. Scared the crap out of my mother in law who was sitting in the seat at the time. It also hurt her shoulder. So, take it to a mechanic and get it fixed before it goes off by itself.

You can take it in to Auto Zone and have them put it on the machine. The will tell you if it just needs to be reset or what the problem is. Plus they do it for free.

seen alot of front crash sensors fail. an alarming rate, actually. airbags are a safety thing, and they really should work. hint, hint.
