Your fingernails are exposed to the sunlight & to fresh air much more often than your toenails. If you were to stay barefoot most of the time, you'd find them growing at about the same rate. I was a lifeguard one summer and only ever wore flops and the nails on my hands & feet grew about the same then.

During the day, hands are more active, which results in an increase in blood flow and at the same time, nails and fingers are subjected to repeated mild traumas that causes nails to grow faster.
Longer fingers get exposed to more trauma, those fingers tend to grow faster than their counterparts.
During the summertime we tend to be more active, our blood circulation increases, we are warmer, causing our nails to grow faster.
Toenails grow slower than fingernails because toes are less mobile than fingers and blood circulation is less effective in the feet.
Pregnant women however, have an elevated metabolic rate which increases nail growth during those months

Maybe because your fingers are more in tact with dirt and water which makes your nails grow, Your toe nails are always stuck in a shoe or sock so maybe that can be a reason!

They don't! Every body is different in my case my toe nails grow faster... The rate of nail growth depends on your body and the intake of food, as some foods are good for your nails! Hope i Helped =D x

Maybe because toenails have friction scartching against them periodically nearly every day which I guess is slowly scratching down the toenails. Naturally, people are always fiddling with their nails, polishing them, clipping them, and all sorts of stuff that make them continually grow. Unless, of course, they are nail biters like me!

I think shoes sort of stop them from growing as fast- kind of like a nail file

because there in a shoe and sock they don't get any air. if you wore gloves all the time you finger nails will grow slow too.

exactly what measurements were there on fingernails and toenails to come to that conclusion... plus shoes- prevent that much growth- there's nothing at the end of your fingertips that can slow fingernail growth

my explanation is that since your hands tend to be exposed more than your feet your hand skin cells need to be regenerated much faster than your feet which are usually shelter in socks and shoes.
