Is it true that with the U.S army, in order to get in, all you have to do is sign up and then take a medical exam and then if you pass that, they have you?

No.

You take the ASVAB, they do a background check, you get a physical. If you meet their standards, you could sign up.

I seriously doubt that any professional Standing army would have a "Sign on the dotted Line" policy, maybe if this was the 1800s, then they might just do that, but the U.S army recruitment is very much like our own recvriutment that we have in Britain.

According to their website, the general qualifications are:

- U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien
- 17-41 years old
- Healthy and in good physical condition
- In good moral standing
- High School or Equivalent Education"

But then again, the website also says the US army is the "finest organisation in the world", so I guess it just goes to show that you can't believe everything you read.... :)

you have to have a high school diploma or equivilant, and pass a long test valled the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Apptitude Battery) to make sure you arent a complete retard and the test will also tell you what jobs you are qualified. Depending on the job you get, you may also need a security clearence, and yes, you do have to pas a physical as well.

Why would anyone want to sign up and do the bidding of Bush and the Republicans? You would be better standing for the Senate and try to change a system which takes its people to illegal wars such as Iraq.

no. and they don't "have you" until you set foot in the hotel the night before leaving for bootcamp. but while you're DEPing, you're free to walk out. you still have to take the ASVAB before you sign, sorta like an iq test. gotta pass the asvab, go through a physical, then you gotta get through bootcamp. but the whole process is pretty easy.

I am -Air Force- but we all go through what is call MEPS some kind of Military Examination Plan and yes, they run few medical tests on you. Once you're medically clear you're -good to go-; don`t forget that betwen the time you're clear and the time you go to basic military training they run more checks to see if you've tried illegal substances.

I believe that they're in so much of a mess that they'll take anyone. If they called the draft how many of them would they refuse?

"They have you" ?? It is voluntary. Don't make it sound like they trap people - they don't have you unless you want them to. And you need to take more tests than just a physical to get in. You need to undergo mental and physical examinations and written tests to get in.
