I agree that they are never long enough, however in my state the first offense is 25 years minimum. Somehow, that isn't enough time. Notice I said "first" offense? I was reading a story about a guy that was complaining about a 92 year sentence for his 3rd offense. He had a mix of charges like rape and molestation. There's a special hell for those kind of people.

First of all, reference your state's penal code for the minimum and maximum number of years for the different kinds of rapes. In Texas, we have different charges for rape. We actually don't call it rape in Texas anymore, it is called sexual assualt.
If you want to know how long someone generally serves time for those specific crimes, you need to check specific court districts and see if they can offer you a place to research. I know where I work and live, it all depends on a lot of things such as the severity and the persons past history with sexual assault crimes. I cannot begin to tell you how many people have gotten deferred probation (they didn't have to go to prison at all) for aggravated sexual assualt of a child. Much less any of the other sexual assault crimes that aren't related to children.
Don't go thinking this is a bad area that I live in, cause I have found out through my experience that it is this way all over the place and happens all the time. The only people that they really send to prison are the ones that are really really disturbing cases, the repeat offenders, and the ones that violate their probation.
Really sucks but true. They really aren't serving enough time.

It depends on the state and how severe the crime was. There is a lot for the courts to take into consideration. Various states convict and sentence crimes differently.
Here in New Hampshire a child molester used to get out after 3 months or so. Now a convicted child molester after January 2007 is sent to prison for 25 years minimum per count.

there is no such thing as "typical rape". It's either statutory, aggravated, first or second degree. They vary in severity, therefore, they have widely varying sentences.

Check the penal code in your state for the minimum and maximun times.
I can't understand why you want to know this, unless:
a. you were contemplating doing this (or)
b. are in a romantic relationship with someone who has been charged
Either way, there's a problem.

It depends upon the age of the victim and if the victim is left alive or not.
