What is the role of a father in the 21st Century?

In my experience is to do nothing and it seems to be a new reality... however if you love your children the way your are suppose to... your roll is to to love, nurture and care for the child. Be firm but loving... teach them the lessons in life you feel to be essential like telling the truth, right from wrong and things like that.. also teach them some not so essential things like how to ride a bike or go fishing.. boy or girl alike.. daddy's job is to be a role model.. if you do things your not proud of your job is to protect them from knowing you do those things... don't show them the bad but still teach them the realities in life. Being a dad can't be summed up in a page or two of words but your role as a father is very involved in the child's life.. never miss a moment.. go to every game and every concert make sure their dreams come true. In other words.. your suppose to do the same thing as a mother.. except with out the breast feeding and the giving birth... whether your with the mom or not.. you have to be there as much as physically possible... sending money every month and showing up once in a while doesn't cut it.. never did and probably never will....

P.S. remember regardless of gender to treat each child the same... the differences in raising shouldn't begin until their needs as human beings changes which is later on in life...

The role of a father never changed since the creation of the world. It has always been and will be: to provide, to protect, to teach good and train the children to be strong, to protect themselves and to provide for themselves when they grow up, but most of all - to tell them about God and eternal values. If things seem different in 21st century, it is only because we have more "stuff". If children learn from the TV more than from their fathers, it is only because fathers either work too much or care about the children too little. So, go ahead, be a father, just classic old type.

I believe firmly that Mother Nature is never wrong. The fact that it requires both a male and a female to bring a child into the world must mean that both parties are essential to the child's well-being. The child needs both the male and the female influence to grow up balanced and be able to have a healthy relationship with both males and females. It has also been proved that having both parents is essential to self-esteem for they are role models. How does a boy learn how to be a man without a father? How does a girl learn to relate to members of the opposite sex without a father? Women who claim they can raise the kids themselves obviously haven't really asked the kids themselves. Many 'single moms' who reject the father do so for their own convenience. They give little thought to the kids.

The role of Father is the same now as it has been forever. You are a role model for your sons. You show them how to be good, hard working men who are respectful and kind. You are a role model for your daughters. You show them how a man treats a woman and what to look for in a husband. Having a good relationship with your father is the way to high self esteem, especially for girls.

Same as ever. Provide for them with food, clothing, shelter and such. Be prepared to take care of cuts and bruises, and change smelly diapers. Be a big part of your child's life, and never make them feel like their second to work, hobbies, tv, or whatever else there may be. Don't be a workaholic, but get enough money to take your whole family on a trip every now and then, and leave work at the office whenever you can. Home time is kid time.
