My sis (dog groomer) heard about a website where you can customize your "designer dog." Like, click for size (teacup, mini, etc.), coat color, etc. Add to cart, pay now, and your dog will be bred just for you!

My first reaction was that of course such a thing doesn't exist! But then I got to thinking that, with the huge popularity of these "designer dogs" and the scores of people who want "teacup" anything, it's possible. Does anyone know of such a breeder or company?

And no, I'm NOT interested in ordering a customized dog. I'm just wondering if the demand for designer dogs has grown to this level.

Unfortunately, I am sure there is a sick website with even sicker people behind it. Yes, America HAS come to that disgusting level of making dogs like desginer jeans. Every shape, size, color, and texture.

If I find one, I will write a nasty note, that's for sure!

That's really sad. Places like that may appear to exist but I doubt if they're trustworthy and if the dogs come from reputable breeds. In fact it could also be a scam (I heard of scams going around from people who buy their puppy online and never recieve them).

Designer dogs are recently the "in" thing due to they hype in hollywood (ie Jessica Simpson and her pooch). Plus there's all this belief that they don't affect people with allergies (which I fail to see with my poodle mix). I have a "designer dog" but she's like 12 years old and was a stray that I adopted. I knew a breeder who breeds these "designer dogs" because they are so popular and everyone wants them, but $800 for a puppy (a mutt) with no papers that can't be registered. Instead I adopted a min pin for 1/4 the price ($295) and used the money to enroll us in a training courses; purchased a kennel, dog bed, food, and paid for her next round of shots.

The demand for designer dogs has increased immensly. Let me tell you smething... I honor you that you aren't interested with this "designer" breed because it is great cruelty to animals.

A "designer" breed is no different from a mix, which we refer to as a "mutt". However, we dump "mutts" in adoption centers and even along roadside, hoping they'd die or something. Yes, its true. AND NOW, people have created this "designer" fantasy, that instead of adopting or rescuing an animal IN NEED, we are creating a hassle of a lot more!

Now, I am personally against this all, and I'm admiring you for making a choice to ask this, because, YES, people do this. But I know, however many breeds will be shot at me, I will never, ever replace my furry doggie friend, who is more of a brother to me than a pet, with a "designed" breed just for my liking.

I used to be superficial and shallow, wanting a "designer" pooch, but I saw a show on how these dogs are "made" and most are treated HORRIBLY!!! They were kept in flithy conditions, bred without sanitation or concern, and the females weren't even allowed to nurse their young because they would be shipped almost rigt away to a store! It was soooooo SAD! I was sobbing!

And don't even get me started on teacups. They're not meant to be THAT tiny and hopeless. If you buy one, be prepared for an array of health issues, difficulties, and plenty of PLENTY (!!!) of MASSIVE vet bills. They are more likely to get heart murmer, stroke, disease, cancer, influenza leading to pneumonia, internal bleeding, and a GREAT deal more.

Please, don't fall for a scam as a "designer" teacup pooch. I have warned you, and the rest of this choice is yours. :(

Edit: Yes, Beautiful something, whoever you are, Chorkies, Morkies, Maltipoos, Labradoodles, Malt-Tzus, and all others, is also what I'm referring to. They may be cute, with even more adorable names, but think about it. This is CRUEL and UNUSUAL punishment for INNOCENT anmals!!! BOYCOTT, BOYCOTT!!!!

I have never heard of such a thing. That disgusts me. Dogs are not accessories.

OMG thats horrible!
Whats next designer babies?
If the rich n famous can afford to customize their breed, they seriously need to walk into an Animal Shelter & kind-heartledly DONATE to those. I know some of the rich and famous do publically donate but since sports figures and actors/actresses tend to be an example for society (for some people) ie;fashion trends and lifestyles.......let them led by emample & HELP or VOLUNTEER at pet shelters.

Actually, the term "designer dog" is a reference to the new hybrid breeds-- such as the chorkie (chihuahua/yorkshire terrier) and the labradoodle (labrador retriever/standard poodle).

wow thats crazy! it doesnt surprise me though. you can do just about anything now. i just hope those who buy from there research the place and it doesnt turn out to be a puppy mill. i cant imagine a customized dog where you choose it online coming from a quality breeder. sounds like a scam that may produce unhealthy puppies.

That is cruel and unusual punishment for animals. Like someone else said, dogs are not accessories to show off, they are a REAL life. Besides, it's probably like a bajillion dollars! Can we say, BOYCOTT???
