Because anything is allowed on the web, including child porn and all other kinds of disgusting things.

People dont know that anorexia is dangerous, and actually kills 10% of all those who have it. I have had my own experience with anorexia and one anorexic encouraging another is about the worse thing that can happen. So you can imagine how much damage a whole forum of them can do...

I think something should be done about those sites, as something is done about heinous or disgusting sites. The autorities have to see those sites as what they are : public health hazards

It's not just websites, it's EVERYWHERE! Although I have some good news. Finally the fashion world has been listening to our complaints about how tired we are of the idea of femininity being portrayed by sickly looking, anorexic, zombies. They are now starting to look for healthier looking models with a few more pounds on them. Kate Winslet is very vocal about her disgust with Hollywood and magazines for the unhealthy and unrealistic image of femininity. She says she does not allow fashion magazines in her home around her 4 year old daughter because she doesn't want her to develop an unhealthy body image about herself.
Also, I think females try to stay skinny as some sort of sick competition thing with other females. I don't think it has anything to do with men. From what I'm hearing lately, men would much rather be with a woman who has curvier hips and bigger boobs, which means having more meat on your bones.
You shouldn't be at one extreme or the other. Not Obesity nor anorexia is healthy or attractive. Make sure to get regular checkups with your doctor to determine the right weight for you. Skinny is ugly!

It is allowed online because it is part of freedom of speech. Pro-anorexia is a way of thinking that is very popular right now about teenagers and early twenty year olds. So of course more and more of the websites pop up as they become more popular.

Free speech. There are websites that are pro-smoking, drinking, drugs, etc (many things that aren't healthy or are downright unhealthy if misused).

We have to focus on education and teaching, starting young, what's positive and what is not and hopefully when kids are of an age to think for themselves, they'll be better able to distinguish what is a good thing and what is not.
