I have 2 Boxer puppies(6months and a year old) and I am 22 weeks pregnant. The dogs are really good, but they are extremely hyper by nature...and are always jumping...will they be okay around the new baby???

My ex-mother-in-law had a Boxer when my daughter was 18 months. The Boxer was extremely hyper until she was around my baby, then all she wanted to do was lick her. She grew to be very protective of my daughter. I loved the Boxer so much that I now have an 8 week old female. I have a feeling that your Boxers will be as excited about the new baby as you will be.

Boxers are GREAT with children. My son (age 5 now) God parents have a boxer and the dog Mack was wonderful around my son when he was a baby. He would let my son crawl all over him and let my son take bones and toys away from Macks mouth with no hesitation. I am sure the 6 month old will be a little different because the puppy is a baby himself. We have a picture of my child @ 3 months of age trying to roll over and Mack reached out his paw and actually helped him roll over. It was so sweet. The boxer could not have been any better of a dog to my child. I will say once your child is older (walking) we had to get on to Mack a few times because Mack thought he was more of a toy and old enough to player rough. But he learned and to control his excitement he would walk around and do the "kidney bean" you know where their butt is twisted around to almost the dogs face:)
You should be fine and as you get bigger in size and further along the dogs will pick up that something is different and start being more protective and not jumping on you as much..Hope this helps..

A lot of boxers are hyper and your two are still puppies (a boxer is a puppy mentally at age 1). They're always jumping now - do you really think that they'll somehow know not to do that around a baby. Of course they won't be OK!! You need to start training them right now. If you are knowledgeable enough to train a dog and do it consistently, in time they'll be ok, but don't make the mistake of leaving them with a baby or a toddler unsupervised.

Any dog *can* be a good dog around children, provided that you teach the dog how to behave appropriately. I'd suggest you get your dogs into an obedience class and start work ASAP on teaching them proper manners.
Also, make sure you give your dogs an outlet for their excess energy. The best thing to do is set aside an hour a day for play exclusively with the dogs. Take them outside or to a dog park and let them run and/or play with you. Afterwards, they should be more able to be calm around your family and future child. Make sure you keep this routine up once your child is born. Have your husband watch your child for an hour while you play with just the dogs, no distractions. This will aid in preventing them from acting out to get attention (what we commonly call "jealousy").

It all depends on the specific dog. You definitely want to get them to stop jumping. They may be jealous of your new baby and the attention it is going to get. You should keep a close eye on them when you first bring the baby home, and never leave the dogs alone in the room with the baby.
