I have it!!!
For elderly people in my family, I have purchased them newspaper subscriptions from the town in which they grew up. This brings them back to their roots! Helps them to bring back many memories.
People in their 60's - 70's, they love to read and talk about ol' times ! This will give them something they can read weekly or monthly! Its a gift that will or can last all year!!
Good luck & Merry Christmas!!!!

How about handwritten letters from kids and grandkids relating certain memories of their relationships and specials moments with grandparents during their lifetimes. Accompany these with either hand drawn pictures (from grandkids) or photographs that were taken at that time/event. Put them in an album and present it to them.
Leave a blank page at the back where a new total family portrait or photograph can be taken of the entire family (get a friend with a good wide angle camera to take it) and inserted after the holidays.
Good Luck!!!

My parents are in their 70's and since they have everything, I always get them gift certificates to eat out at their favorite resturant, or for places where they get their hair done at. Or even for the grocery store. Plus another good thing is to fill up a basket of all the personal items they use every day, like shaving cream, shampoo, hair spray, toothpaste. They are always appricated.Plus another thing is movie tickets, or even a day at the zoo, with you and your family. Sometimes just spending a day here or there with them is the greatest gift you could give them. Good LUck!!!!

One year I gave my older parents gift cards from Walgreens, since they seem to need to go there every other day for medicine and stuff like that. It's not very personal but I also enclosed some nice family photos and they seemed to appreciate that.

Give them a gift card to a place where they can buy groceries, clothes, household items, prescriptions (ie: Walmart, Cosco, etc). This way they can use it as they need to.

If they are out of town, how about stationary and stamps. They might not use the internet.
