VHF or more specifically anywhere from 118 to 135 MhZ, you find the military stuff from 142MhZ right up to 400MhZ.
A good reference book is the Air Band Radio Handbook ISBN 1-85260-606-1 which wingspan call 'An indespensible tool' apparently - funny i thought it was a book. You can get it at Amazon.

The correct short form of MegaHertz is MHz.

Strangely enough, while it's perfectly legal to sell the appropriate radios, it is theoretically illegal to listen to both civil and military aircraft transmissions. Nobody seems ever to get done for it, though.

As stated by others, they operate between 118 - 135Mhz in the VHF range. By far the best book that I have come across is Airwaves (ISBN 1-899030-26-X) published by Photavia Press.

All civil aircraft use the same frequencies worldwide.

Hi.
Check out flightstore.co.uk for airport frequencies. Also, check out any airband scanner sites. If you are serious about listening in to local air traffic, don't go buying a £30 receiver just because it says 'Airband' on it- go get a decent scanner.
Happy listening.
