The idea that we are some sort of moral authority is nonsense.
Morals authority is a silly little dream of superiority that does not exist out side of the mind that thinks that it is one.

The only thing we have to do in America to make up for the misdeeds is to start teaching Truth. The Truth will set us free. America has got us over here and thought us what ever it takes to worship them. For exp: Why do you have to take Afro American History if it happened in America??? Shouldn’t it all be American History. And the class is an elective - you do not even have to take it. America wants us to think that the world did not start spinning until the Greeks popped up. Before then everyone else is a barbarian. This is a white world and they spontaneously generate history to prove they are superior. Once we get out of this ethnocentric way of thinking and teach Truth about the wonderful achievements of all cultures, we will be doomed to keep repeating the same mistakes. It is funny to hear people say this country was founded on God! I wonder what God they are speaking of. Must be the God of theft, murder and rape.

Like all countries, we've done some good things and some bad things. And like all other countries, our society and societal values have evolved over time.
Societies grow, evolve, compete with each other, and either thrive or fade away. The US, so far, has thrived. One of the reasons it has been so strong is because of its foundation of democratic rule and its Bill of Rights, which has kept the press free and restrained religion's influence on the government. That, of course, has drifted over time, and we are now in danger of losing some of those rights. However, we also managed to evolve a stance of equal rights for all citizens, which has helped us grow stronger. That wasn't in the original Constitution, but was later added on.
BTW, this is another strength of the US, its ability to change. Some countries have been quite stagnant. They tend to get run over as the times get past them. The US has, built into it, constant change.

We have a good foundation. Our forefathers founded a country on the belief of freedom of religion. They were mostly Deists, not Christians (George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, the two John Adams, James Madison, Ben Franklin, etc.,). The Christians are now trying to say this is a Christian country and make it so. But, I think our foundation is strong enough to withstand their onslaught.

We, as a nation, have made our mistakes. But, you know, when another country is in trouble, we are the first to help.
Some countries get angry with us for "interfereing", but it seems when they need help, we are the first one they call on. And we always help.
This country was founded on Christianity. There's no denying it. It's in the history books. But, Christians make mistakes, too. We have done things that we should be ashamed of, but because we are a "nation under God", we are forgiven.
And because we are a "nation under God", we have His protection. Why do you think we are so prosperous? Why do you think we seldom have wars on our own land?
I just hope we remain "one nation under God."
So, I would say, yes, we have risen above our misdeeds.

The United States has generally been perceived, deservedly or not, as a force for good. This perception has been degrading continuously since it's zenith right after WWII.
But it has never been so low as it is now. Thank heaven there is now some accountability, checks/balances with the new Congress.

It's too early in America's history to say what will happen. 240 or so years isn't long enough of a history to judge, really. Of course, our history began long before that, but it wasn't called "America" at the time and only my ancestors were here.

Nah. Eventually they re-erase slavery, the civil rights movement and Jim Crow from the history books and we'll forget about it.

Ah, but did we screw other people under the pretense that it was for their own good? THAT is the question!! That makes it all better.
We won't rise above it all. Some other nation will and the US empire will fall.
