The emphasis is not on the dinner, but on a gift exchange and the whole family being together. Everyone has already had ham for Christmas. I'm not a great cook. Ages are from 14 months to 67 years. Two members are not big meat eaters but can be tempted if it's good.

Noodles and gravy... with roast beef! It's REALLY good! I think babies can swollow those noodles! Try it!

hi! It really is difficult to say when I am not sure where you live or know about what sort of markets you are near but.....

How about a really nice meatloaf, Italian bread with some garlic herb butter to toast it if you wish, and a nice big green salad. I'd also offer some mashed potatoes with butter, a little cream and some parsley mixed in, and maybe one vegetable... green peas? Heinz makes a nice chili sauce which you could warm up and serve with the meatloaf if you do not want to make an extra sauce. And, serve some pickles; maybe sweet mixed pickles.

For those who do not really like meat, could you make a Quiche Lorraine .. or pick one up at the deli counter to reheat for dinner?

For dessert and coffee: just find a nice cake at the supermarket. Maybe they have a stollen or something Christmassy ... like a light fruit cake or a spice cake ... and pound cake, too. And some thin chocolate mints.

A big pot of chili is usually a hit. Make it with ground pork for a little variety. You can also put some aside before you put the meat in and use Boca crumbles for those who really don't care for meat. Make garlic bread or cornbread and serve a green salad. Put out a bowl of shredded cheese and one of sour cream to top the chili, and serve crackers and tortilla chips.
I would suggest getting a box of chicken fingers from the supermarket deli for the picky eaters. Some kids won't touch chili or spaghetti. Chicken fingers are always a safe bet. Cut them in small pieces and call them mcnuggets. LOL.
For something sweet, just grab a couple of packs of break-n-bake cookies and pop them in the oven. Folks of all ages love those.

I recently did a "pit beef" (beef roast on the grill w/ a little smoke) for family and got rave reviews. It's not hard, just rub on a bbq rub or salt/pepper (overnight or couple of hours) and put on grill to desired doneness (min. recommended internal temp 145 degrees). Turn every 15 minutes - charred outside is very tasty. This is hard to screw up, but can get a little overdone - I like medium rare (130 - 150 degrees). The roast I did was some sort of round cut but any cut for roasting will do. To serve, slice thin and serve on rolls. BBQ sauce is good, but I like horseradish, hot sauce, and salt/pepper.

A large pot of Spaghetti and garlic bread with a large bowl of Salad with a variety of veggies in it. Various dishes placed about the living room etc with mixed nuts and trays of crackers and cheeses for those who like to munch. This can all be prepared ahead and when guests arrive they can help themselves. Have at least 3 different dressings for the salad and lots of garlic bread. A basic apple or other fruit pie for dessert with Vanilla ice cream an option on the pies or melted cheese for the apple pie. Coffee or Tea for most folks would be plenty. Punch for the kids or sodas. Make it easy on yourself so you can enjoy the festivities too. I believe in making too much so no one will go away hungry. Freeze leftovers. Have fun.

Take a few whole chickens (enough to serve everyone) and marinade to your taste. Place it in the oven to roast after 45 mins after which you baste with mixture of your favourite BBQ sauce mixed with minced garlic every 15 minutes until finished.

Sometimes it is nice to just make a big spread of hors d'oeurvres and snacks. That way there is not too much emphasis on actually sitting down to eat a big meal.

go with a cheese lasanga, it is good. and make a salad and have some italian bread. Lasanga is easy to make, you can find the instructions right on the box of lasanga noodles.
