I am near-sighted, 23 years old. I work full-time in an office with NO daylight and fluorescent lights. I spend an average of 8-9 hours a day, 5 days a week staring at the computer screen. I also study after work, which adds more strain on my eyes. I wear glasses with glare-protection. I paint on weekends and being the person that I am, I cannot see how I can significantly decrease my eye strain – I read, write, type, paint – mostly my activities require eye focus. I took my current job a year ago and I think I can see deterioration in my eye sight. I would not like to have a surgery. Also, I cannot quit the job – even if I do, I'd still be working in an office environment at my next workplace.
IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO ( other than surgery) TO SAVE MY EYES ?
Please, help – I am very concerned.

Eyes naturally tend to get worse as we get older, but I think a good portion of your day should be coordinated so that you can look at something at a different distance than the magic 1.5 ft or whatever, like spending five minutes every hour looking out a window instead of at the computer screen.

I worked for years in computers, I developed demished tear ducks. It is caused partly and aggrevated by working under fluorescent lights. Liquid tears helps to keep your eyes moist. It's not a cure, but it really helps.
