Yes you can...not much taste but just adds a different consistency. If you don't eat the skin here in Switzerland...you would be considered weird :)

Halie is wrong...the skin is part of the cheese and part of the experience, and so should be eaten...take my word for it...I live in the land of cheese and people have certain ettiquettes when it comes to eating cheese properly...I personally don't give a rat's a** but apparently there's a right way and a wrong way to eat cheese.

Yes, you can eat the rind of Brie. It has a weird taste, but you can eat it. Some ppl like it, others like myself dont...
I'm not sure on the Camembert Cheese, I never had that kind...

Sure you can. In fact, many people think that's the best part of the cheese, like the rind off of Parmesan. It's almost a delicacy in snooty circles.

YES you definitely CAN eat the rind of brie & of camambert cheeses.
NO, it is NOT wax, it's part of the cheese.
(Wax on a cheese is usually coloured red or yellow or black to make it obvious that it's NOT edible....like on Edam or even the mini babybell cheeses!)

It bugs me when people answer questions who haven't got a clue what they're talking about....

not only can you eat the skin of both but it is part of the experience, like the fat on bacon, the crust on toast etc... deep fry wedges of brie in breadcrumb and egg and have with cranberry sauce.
Take the paper off the camembert, place back in the box, score the surface crosshatch style, drizzle with a little white wine, stud with garlic slivers, place a little thyme or rosemary on top, replace the lid and bake gently for 20 minutes - remove the lid and cook for another 5 minutes, place the whole thing - box included on a plate and dive in with lovely crunchy bread. Amazing gooey Heaven. :-P

The rind is entirely edible and in fact the quality of eating would be damaged if it weren't. I disagree that it's tasteless - it is an integral part of the cheeses taste and character.
