At Prophet Muhammad S.A.W's time, I believe he prefers and suggests that all Muslim (men and women) to pick the colours and patterns of their clothings (hijab included) in the most modest way so as it wouldn't bother the eye and mind during praying time. I wouldn't know how it is in the middle east, but I seen almost all of the ladies in hijabs use dark if not plain subtle colours. As for me being a Muslim woman in Indonesia, I find most of us Muslim sisters here to be more into bright colours and patterns. It also depends on cultures I guess :) As long as it covers the Aurat and loose (not tight as to show body lines/curves and transparent as to show body silhouette/shadow), we're on it :)

The main reason wearing burqah is to protect women modesty and opposite sex should not be attracted. So, u may wear black because in black color there is nothing to get attracted. But wearing design burkah is not encouraged because it attract men attention. It is also advisable that while wearing veil the eyes may be hidden as much as possible.
Another thing i want to tell u is that on this site there is no guarantee that the answer are 100% correct. Ask an Alim for the question based on Islam.

I am not muslim, but I was in egypt last year. They wear all colours and patterns but there are no images are on their scarves. Not many women go to the mosque, but apparently they must be covered from head to ankle, no shoes. I think people are very modest in the mosque. Wearing less fancy things, solid colour.

Any color and style that is modest and feminine is Islamically appropriate, but cultures vary in their attitudes toward different colors and patterns and styles. Clothing must cover the body and conceal what is alluring of the shape. A Muslim must also look respectable and not ridiculous. Beyond that, personal preferences are fine.

I live in a Muslim country and women here wear all colors and patterns, many of which are absolutely beautiful. More traditional people tend to stay with black of white.

for everything there is something proper to wear, you would not wear bright overwhelming colours to a church, you would wear something conservative. Also their are certain occasions that the women have to wear black. Patterns are allowed you just don't see them often is all.

Thanks For Your Question
All colors are available in the hijab as far as I know, but some opinions say that its better not to wear a very unique color as not to caught attention or as not for people to look closely at what she is wearing.

As sala'amu alei'kum.
Actually, there is no restriction on colours or patterns.
However, other than the colour black, it is mostly frowned upon. Yet, many ladies use colourful and floral patterned hijab and rarely burqahs.
Ma sala'amah!
