Is it true that if your pregnant you cant go to the dentist? Why is that? I just found out I'm pregnant and I have a root canal that needs to be finished. What do I do?

you are supposed to go to the dentist, but they will know when they can give you novacain and when they can't. i had to have a filling and was able to have it done because i was in the second trimester. you may just have to wait until then. call your dentist or even your doc and find out.

it's the sedation that is dangerous to the child. Not the work the dentist will do. Talk with your dentist about the best way to go about the root canal and make sure he knows you are pregnant.

You CAN get a root canal while pregnant. I had to get 2. In fact, I ended up in preterm labor from not taking care of it soon enough! It abscessed, and any sort of infection in you body can bring on labor!! Go to the dentist!!!

It depends on the procedure and the dentist. Some dentists refuse any work on a pregnant patient (besides cleanings, you just can't have flouride treatments) because of the potential liability. My dentist refuses all treatments, but my friend had a tooth pulled will pregnant. BUT just so you know you don't get the normal pain meds (basicly tylenol is all), NO "laughing" gas and usually less novicain or whatever that dentist uses for numbing. My friend said she wished she would have waited because of how painful it was.....they barely numbed it and no pain killers for afterwards (and she had stitches). Depends on you I guess!

honestly most dentists won't touch pregnant women because of the meds that are required for stuff like that. It's unsafe for the baby.

Actually it is best for you to have these things taken care of ASAP because improper dental hygiene can cause premature birth. Contact both your dentist and your OB to ensure that everything goes smoothly. Congratulations and best of luck.
