I shall arrive into HK airport from Guilin around 11.30pm. My connection flight is the next morning at 0900. Can I spend the night at the transit lounge or there is a cheap place within the airport where I can rest for few hours?

You can stay at the transit lounge but it might not be the most comfortable place to spend the night. If the airline you are flying with has a Members Lounge at HK, it's definitely worth puchasing a day pass and spending the night in there. Members Lounges tend to be vey comfortable, with nicer seating and sometimes actual couches. They don't want to encourage people using the lounges in place of a hotel for the night so don't show up with a pillow and blanket, but lots of people nap in there while waiting for a flight; just remember you will be surrounded by frequent business travellers and act accordingly. Day passes cost between $25-100 depending on the airline.

Their web site is responding very slowly today but I am including the link so you can check the rest of their amenities. It's not very common to have an actual sleeping area in an airport but still worth checking to see what's there--- Miami Int'l has a swimming pool, of all things, in the airport so I guess you never know!
