A. technically we don't love him unconditionally. we love him because of his character, and for what he has done for humanity.

B. again, technically God does love us unconditionally. As others have mentioned, he loves us while we are still sinners, even sending Christ to die for us. However, there is some kind of moral law that prevents God from allowing evil/sin into his presence. whether that law is something above & beyond God (how to reconcile with his soverignty?), or something implicit in his character I don't know. But it seems there is some reason why God can't allow so-called sinners into his presence. Thus the necessity for Christ's sacrifice. Through his death we can take on a nature that God can accept into his presence.

Personally, I think that unless hell is actually non-existence, god will continue to love those in hell, and the job of those in heaven will be to continue to minister to those in hell, with the hope that one day all in hell will accept Christ's gift of salvation and everyone can be at peace in heaven.

He doesn't love us conditionally. There is nothing in this world that would make Him turn from you ever. He loves all. That's why He died for everyone. He loves "everyone" unconditionally, it's your choice if you want to love Him or not.

To prove our faith, not only to god, but to ourselves... when we can love unconditionally, without question, without doubt, and without judgment, we are then loved just as unconditionally, by not only god, but also by ourselves... proving that of god in each of us.

It is not up to us to judge others but to hand part of the baggage we as humanity seem to carry over to god, when we do that and surrender our love for him, not thru a church or other form of worship, but thru our hearts, we are then truely blessed, and it is then ones relationship with god that grows and fills our soul with enlightenment...have you ever noticed true christians faces, how they seem to be so bright and illuminated...almost youthful, no matter the age? it is their uncondtional love for god, and the unconditional un questioned love they recieve back...

Also we must remember the difference between the physical and the spiritual... and also that it does not matter which faith we follow, but that we do have faith...each religion is but a pathway to god...we all travel a different road, but ultimatly we meet the same end...it is not living or dying, but how we grow spiritually with god that matters, hence loving unconditionally and without question, seeing the light in front of you, instead of the darkness...god always loves you, its just a matter of do you love yourself, selflessly?

Because the Biblical God is not capable of the same quality of Love that the average parent is.

Imagine a parent who expected worship, and who punished her children for something some earlier generation did.

From the Christian standpoint, though, God does love unconditionally. God does not turn His back on anyone, even those who have turned their back on him. Seek and ye shall find.

God does love unconditionally, it's like your parents, you may have been a bad kid who did bad things and you may have gotten yelled at by your parents but that didn't mean they didn't love you, it meant your behavior was unexceptable.

Walk away from God and he'll always be there to welcome you back, but you have to decide to go back. Don't put God in a box, he doesn't to you.

A God of conditional love isn't part of the Christian doctrine. There's an angry, vengeful God in the OT, but in the NT it's more of a 'Give Me a Hug you Sinner!' type of God.

I love the poster who said that God loves us unconditionally. If that's the case, then why do "non-believers" go to hell? Oh, maybe God loves CHRISTIANS unconditionally. Which is conditional. ;-)

Matthew 18:8-9 (Mark 9:43-47)
"And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away; it is better for you to enter life maimed or lame than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into the eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and throw it away; it is better for you to enter life with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into the hell of fire. "

will a devout christian PLEASE take this as literal as the idea that jesus raised up to heaven!!!! all men who have lusted after a woman should have NO eyes by now!

Actually, God loves us unconditionally.

To wyvern1313, God loves ALL his people unconditionally, whether they are Christian or not. Even if we sin, He will take us back if we repent and are truly sorry for our sins. The only people who go to hell are the ones who don't repent.
