I'm out of work at the moment, and although I feel that I can be more relaxed about my daily routine, I think that I am being TOO relaxed - in fact I'm not even sure that relaxed is the right word, it's more Disorganised.

I'm not sleeping right - going to bed late, sleeping untill the afternoon, and I'm not eating right - over the past couple of days I seem to have had only one main meal late in the afternoon, and the rest of the time I just snack - on complete crap. I know this is not healthy but I just don't seem to have the motivation to change.

i am unemployed myself, and i know what you mean. Just try to get back on a normal schedule one day at a time, start slowly, if you can, put the bad foods out of sight, and slowly but surely, you will be back on track.

i am doing same thing, it is getting better every day... hugs to you, it is not fun being unemployed...

be strong

I am more-or-less retired now but, even so, I have a routine. You need to figure out a routine and stick to it. Go to bed at a reasonable hour, get a good night's sleep, get up early and go for a run or a walk. Exercise and enough sleep will change your perspective in a lot of ways. Also, along with that, eat well and start your day with breakfast. It fuels you for the day and helps (along with the other things) clear your head and helps you think straight! Otherwise, as you already know, you just kind of float along and accomplish nothing. It's kind of like you're a leaf floating along in a stream. Now, it's time to be the stream!!

Make a plan stick to it

Get up eat breakfast
fill your time with useful things go out to seek work, visit friends see if the local school or nursing home can use your help voluntarily you never know what that can lead too, you are building back your self esteem and routine and then enjoy the evenings.. You will be back on top form before you know it.

Good Luck and best wishes for a great 2007

You have got yourself into a routine that is not good for you. You need to break this habit.
You don't have a job so there is nothing to get out of bed for. Give yourself a reason to get out of bed.
What about a gym? councils usually give a discount for unemployed people at their gyms. This way you will burn off all that unused energy which can be harmful in itself. Even though you are not working your body is still producing adrenaline, and if you don't use it your body will need to discrete it at some time.
Is nightime TV or Internet chat rooms really that riveting? Give yourself a target time to go to bed and stick to it, it will make getting up easier.
Try to get out and meet people, the local library has computer access for free, better to sit there amongst people than on your own.
Get out of your routine by making a new routine and things should pick up.

When you are unemployed it is easy to get into this habit. I did this once and had to structure my day. I forced myself to get up at 8.30am - which isn't early compared to when you work - and made myself get in the routine of showering, dressing, having breakfast, tidying up a bit, going out (to job centre or for a walk) etc. it wasn't easy for the first part but after 3 weeks it was 2nd nature - and I retrained to be a driving instructor and started my own business.
If I can do it you can too and it is well worth the effort. Good luck : )

i understand this feeling....i had this condition when i was still studying back in high school...i just don't know why..but i loss the desire to study...even just before the examination no matter how hard i push myself..i threaten myself....i tried everything..and when the examination is over...i think alot..and i finally know what was bothering me...and i am back to normal...motivated and my confident is back...i am pretty sure that i was even more confident than before...
i try analying the situation..i ask myself why...then after a month of soul-searching...i finally understood....
you can try talking to a very close friend..or get a counsellor...you are feeling so..bacause i guess..you had seen something or went throught something very terrible and very exausthing...and this is what holding you back...(sometimes or in my case, mostly this something can be so small that allow you to ignore it)
if you don't find out the cause of this 'abnormal' condition..you will never know how to cure it..
good luck..i have faith in you~

Well I think that its because you are beginning to get in a slump, with you being out work right now, you are starting to become a little lazy and maybe perhaps a little disconcerned about many things but perk up, it will all be ok....Just get out there (maybe after the holidays) and look for another job, you will soon be back on your feet in no time

I know exactly what you mean. I'm self employed, so when I have work my routine is pretty good (ie I'm forced to get out of bed early). When I don't have work, my lifestyle pretty quickly slips into the scenario you've described. So basically the only way out of it is to find a reason to get up in the morning - and that usually means getting a job......

I would try looking for a job or something that is a daily routine for you to get back in to! Or if you are just not ready for job, join a gym or yoga club. It could make you relaxed!

A good start would be to read the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, especially the section on being proactive.
