I hate that fact that the earth is deteriorating and we're causing it, I try and do what I can to help, but before I was committed to this I bought my Jeep Liberty and now I want to make my car safer to use for the enviroment. I hate the thought that I'm contributing to the earth's demise. HELP please.

Keep in well tuned (at least once a year) and the tires inflated to maximize your milage.
Getting rid of it isn't the answer. If you sell it, someone else will drive it, right? So the emissions are still out there. To ease your guilt, go to a site like terrapass.com (there are others as well) and buy an offset. The money you donate goes to carbon-reducing projects like alternative energies. The result is that they reduce the CO2 output somewhere else to balance out what you are introducing with your Liberty. And they give you a little sticker for your Jeep!

Check if your SUV uses E85 Ethanol, although its only available in some areas. What most people don't know is that a lot of vehicles are made with the capability of using E85 which is a fuel made out of corn instead of petroleum. It's much better for the environment! If your SUV doesnt use it you can trade it in for a Jeep Commander or Grand Cherokee. Both of them use E85. If you do not have E85 in your area, you could always look into getting a Hybrid. Hope this helps!

If you are going to keep it, keep it tuned up change the oil and fluids on a regular basis and keep the tires inflated properly. These will help get the best gas mileage. If it is a short trip to the store or something like that try walking, it's good for you. Use your vehicle for long trips only. Or you can trade it in for a Hybrid SUV or buy something smaller and safe.

Run it on Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG), if you can do that in the states.

Buy a diesel.

Convert a diesel to run on vegetable oil.

Work out your carbon emissions, pay to have enough trees planted that re-absorb that amount.

The main thing you can do to help the environment, in terms of greenhouse gas emissions, is do anything you can to raise awareness of how much damage the industrialisation of China is doing to the planet. Far more significant that your fuel economy.

there are not many things out there that can make cars run cleaner than they do. Keep it tuned up, and maintained, and it will be safe as it can be. Jeep Liberty's put out less emmissions than many other vehicles I can think of.
There is a propane conversion that can be done but it is expensive.

1. Don't drive it.
2. Keep it tuned up.
3. Trade it for something more environmentally friendly -- like a bicycle.
