1- open the pic in photoshop,in the layers pallet click on the layer named "background" and change it to any name.
2->"ctrl"with"+" to enlarge the view
3- use the" lasso" tool to draw a precious selection around the
main object in the photo(that you want to keep),you can add areas by keep pressing "shift" or deduct by "alt"
4->ctrl+i to invert the selection.
5->delete,the background now removed.
6- make a new layer under the original one and draw any thing in it to be your new background or open a second photo that contains a good background and drag it by "moving"tool to your photo,a new layer created
7-in layers pallet drag this new layer to under the main layer.
8-adjust colors,levels,contrast,size,...etc of each layer to match(>image>adjustment)
9->ctrl+e,to merge all layers
10-use the "blur"tool to soften edges of the object

You need to select the background - use the magic wand selection tool (looks like a microphone) click on the background -

If it doesn't select all the background in one go hold down the shift key and select other bits until they all join up and the background is selected

Then select the colour you want in the foreground colour and use the paintbucket to fill in the selected (background) area

if you are dealing with an image that has one solid color as a background, (which is extremely rare) you can go under your select menu, and choose color range, use the dropper and select the range of colors you want selected, then do with them what you want. (you can do this with multiple colors although its a little tricky.)
