My kitty Fudge is approximately 1.5 years old and yesterday i noticed a red string near his back end and i thought it was stuck to his tail so when i went to pull it off i noticed it wasn't exactly on his tail so i stopped pulling. After laughing my a** off for a few minutes i got worried, I gave him some crisco oil to try to make him potty and he did, this morning i found the string in his feces. Should i take him to the vet to get xrays to make sure its all out or should i leave it alone. He's acting normal he's eating and playing and going potty just fine.

make sure its eating and drinking fine and watch its poo for a few days...look around and find the source of where the string came from and try and figure out how much string is missing...xrays are always a good idea but it should be fine..try some hairball remedy or vaseline and whatever is left should slip out..about a teaspoon or two....smile

my cat got ahould of some pretty old tinsel, the type in a long wrap-around the tree type and his poo has been so colorful but he is fine....lol

ps dont ever try and pull it out you could cause damage...

Good job with the oil. It sounds like it did the trick. If it was a just a thin piece of string I would not be worried. I'm pretty sure it is all out. You might want to give him just another helping of that oil or better yet Petroleum jelly for another day or two just to be safe. It's also good for hair balls. Unless he can't poop or he's passing blood which would make his stool appear blacker than usual he should be fine. I really wouldn't waste a vet trip and xrays. They may even tell you the same thing. My fiance's rottweiler once ate a giant piece of rope. We asked the vet what to do, he said nothing, just let it pass (literally) and if he doesn't show symptoms of discomfort, then he's fine. Just whatever you do, "Never attempt to pull it out," that could lead to rupturing the intestines if it's stuck.

That too shall pass. there is no longer something greater friendly than chasing a cat in the time of the homestead trailing a turd on an 8" piece of string. there is the threat that a protracted piece of string can grow to be in touch interior the bowel yet that's uncommon. save a watch on the muddle dish for a pair of days if the twine would not pass or the cat starts off to instruct warning signs of misery, take it to the vet.

My cat of 15 years just died from this.....I was always so careful cuz he had a bad habit of eating string or yarn if he could to it. I never brought or allowed it in the house cuz he was such a muncher and a month ago I let my kids have a balloon in the house and forgot to cut the string off before I went to bed and he ate it . A $300 vet bill later he is gone and I miss him. So please be careful in the future cuz now you know you cat has this bad habit too. Also you have to be careful with tinsel on Christmas trees cuz he might like that too.

I am appalled at the fact you find this funny. That is the last thing it is if you care about the cat at all. Do you not realize how serious this could have been or could still be.I find this very disturbing. Many in the answer section seem to think it's funny also. What is this world coming to! And yes of course he needs to still go to the vet. You didn't know he ate this string, how do you know he did not eat more? You need to kitty proof your house.

I have a known string eater as well.

If you can figure out where he got the string from, you should be able to determine whether it all came out or not.

The last time this happened to me, the vet told me to watch for changes in appetite and for vomiting or lethargy. It certainly wouldn't hurt to take him in to the vet just to be on the safe side, but you're probably in the clear.

I got lucky too. I went home to check on her and found an early xmas present in the litter box. Since I knew what she had eaten, I was able to estimate how much was missing and compare that to how much turned up.

String can get tangled up in the intestines and cause them to twist and block the intestinal tract. You should take Fudge in to the vet. It is better to be safe than sorry.

If he's not acting poorly, I'd just leave him. They're always eating things they shouldn't. Are you sure it was string and not an intestinal worm? Watch out for any more just in case and get some worming tablets or whatever they are from the petstore.

lol....he is just being a cat. My bf had to pull a leaf out of my cats a.s.s. and he is fine now! haha! I am pretty sure that it will be ok. Cats have lived for this many years without us xraying them every time a string or leaf is hanging out their butt.....so I am sure it should be ok!

If you are not sure if he passed all of the string then take him to the vet. It can get twisted in his intestines and he can die a painful death.
