My uncle is surprising my auntie with a kitten, because it is a "breed" it is 16wks old before being homed, they have been calling the kitten Garfield, any ideas for a name that is similar (so as not to confuse the cat) but is different incase she wants to change it. Thanks

Well my cat is called Hendrix, he had a brother called Marley but I lost him two months ago. I named them so, because they are both black and Hendrix is wild and Marley was really laid back and mellow, I think the best way to name a cat is look at their characteristics and see if you come up with anything.
Also think of a name that wouldn't embarrass you if it was called out in the vet waiting room, my sisters cat for instance is called Muffie Diana, say no more.

I have two females named Lucy and Ethel. You didn't say if your kitten is a male or female though. There are alot of websites with kitten names. http://absolutelycats.tripod.com/22FavoriteNames.html this is just ONE of the billion sites.

Actually...eventually you'll start giving the kitten all sorts of nick names that go with their personality and just might come up with one naturally. Lucy and Ethel have a bunch of nick names besides their actual names that I usually call them with...affectionate names I guess..so you just might come up with a cute one that way. Lucy is also Moofassa, Chunky Butt and My Love and Ethel is Fancy Butt, Pretty and Sweets! So eventually you'll be calling your kitten what ever fits. It will all of a sudden come to your aunt.

I love the name Garfield and I am sure your aunt will love it too. However I have been nown to call cats things such as Ickle, Yatzy, Tootsy, Charlie, Kitkat, Snowball, Bonzo, Gonzo, Fitzer, Mitzy etc etc.

similar to Garfield?
Sellafield
Love Field
Hay Field

In my experience cats soon get used to a new name if it involves being fed so I would persevere on a new one. The only way to confuse a cat is to offer it a menu.

Tarquin
Frank
Herman
Sartre
Basil

Our cat is Jaxson. Cats will get used to a new name in time. Just use it ALOT... We got him from a shelter... he was 2 years old, declawed and neutered..so obviously belonged to someone.. but listed as a stray... after only a couple months, he seemed to "love" his name!!

Smokey, Cinder, Cinderella, Coal, Silver,

I don't think the cat will be confused, since he's still very little and can be trained to answer to another name with time and patience.
